Illustration explaining how UUID Generator works

How to use it

  1. Choose how many UUIDs you want to create.
  2. Click “Generate” to create random version 4 UUIDs.
  3. Review the generated identifiers.
  4. Click “Copy” to copy the results.

Supported input and notes

Generates random UUID version 4 identifiers. They are useful as general IDs but are not guaranteed to be unique in an absolute sense.

When it is useful

Useful for assigning temporary identifiers to test data, records, or development fixtures.

UUIDs Are Identifiers

A UUID is used to distinguish one record or process from another. The UUID v4 values created here are not sequential; they use a randomized format that works well for test data and independently created IDs.

Sequential IDs and UUID v4

Sequential ID

Values such as 1, 2, and 3 make order and counts easy for people to follow.

UUID v4

The value does not represent creation order, which makes it useful when records need identifiers without a sequence.

Batch Generation Uses the Same Format

You can request from 1 to 100 UUIDs at once. Each result uses the same UUID v4 format and appears on its own line for easy copying.

Duplicate UUIDs Are Very Unlikely

UUID v4 is generated from an extremely large set of possible values. In ordinary use, the chance of two generated UUIDs matching is very low, which is why UUIDs are widely used to identify records.

Important systems should still check for duplicates: UUID v4 is designed to make duplicates very unlikely, but it does not guarantee that every generated value will always be unique. If duplicate IDs must never be accepted, check for an existing ID when saving the data.

FAQ

Will every UUID always be different?

They will normally differ, but generation does not guarantee that a duplicate is impossible.

How many UUIDs can I create at once?

This tool accepts 1 to 100 per generation.

Does a UUID show creation order?

No. UUID v4 is not a sequence, so the value itself is not suitable for determining creation order.
